KCR to demand ‘Special Status’ for Telangana on lines of Seemandhra

Telangana Rashtra Samithi Chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday said that he would demand for special status for Telangana on the lines it was granted for Seemandra region.
He said that Telangana region by and large comprises of eight backward districts as per the Planning Commission and therefore requires special status just like it was granted to Seemandhra. Only Hyderabad and Rangareddy district could be classified as developed.
Speaking at a meeting hosted by the Telangana Journalists’ Forum today, the TRS chief said that it was time to rebuild the new state focussing on its infrastructure and job creation for youth. The Information Technology Investment Region, which will come up near Hyderabad, will be a major employment generator in the new State, he said.
Referring to the special status, he said both Seemandhra and Telangana need this along with the 10 year incentives allowed to new industries. While the Centre has already granted it to Seemandhra, he said he would take up the cause and see to that Telangana was also granted special status.

AP Govt. selling out Hitec City, HITEX and Mindspace!

The Andhra Pradesh government is looking to sell its equity stake in several marquee urban infrastructure projects in Hyderabad, likely kicking up a row because the state is in the process of being divided to from Telangana. Even as Telangana statehood process is underway, the Kiran Kumar Reddy Govt initiated process to sell away Govt stakes in several high profile projects in Hyderabad. With President’s rule underway, whether the sell off would materialize is to be seen.
The stake sale could fetch several hundred crores of rupees but it could also lead to controversy, because Hyderabad is located in Telangana, the new state which may claim ownership of the equity holdings in the public-private partnership (PPA) projects.
Last week, the authorities of the undivided Andhra Pradesh began dividing the state government’s equity holdings in dozens of infrastructure projects taken up under public-private partnerships and aim to complete the work by June 2.
A person with knowledge of the divestment process said the state government, though its nodal agency Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure, has decided to sell stakes in at least three landmark projects in Hyderabad. The projects include the Hyderabad International Convention Centre, Hyderabad Information Technology and Engineering Consultancy (Hitec) City and Mind Space IT Infrastructure Project, the source told ET seeking anonymity. APIIC holds stakes ranging from 11% to 26% in these urban infrastructure projects.
Valuers and auditors are being appointed to assess the worth of the equity investments by the state government. Andhra Pradesh has investments in some 300 industrial parks spread over 1.21 lakh acre. It has stakes in 29 joint venture companies with private entities.
APIIC, whose initial focus was selling developed industrial plots to businesses, reoriented itself to the changing needs of the economy and joined hands with private firms. The corporation holds equity stakes in projects mostly in lieu of the land given to infrastructure projects. In some cases, it has made cash investments.

Telangana cuisine makes a roaring comeback and replaces Andhra’s in Hyderabad!!

Telangana Food
In a city bitterly divided over the move to carve out a new state of Telangana from Andhra Pradesh and make it the joint capital, the tension is spilling over from political speeches and street protests to simpler things in life such as menu cards and restaurant names.
Traditionally, the ‘meals ready’ sign outside restaurants in and around Hyderabad meant mouth-watering, spicy ‘Andhra’ food cooked in the coastal Andhra style. Not anymore.‘Andhra’ is now a sensitive word and people in Hyderabad are treading gingerly on the emotive issue. As the state teeters on the brink of being split, the famous ‘Andhra meal’ is running into competition from the ‘Telangana thali’, introduced in deference to pro-Telangana sentiments. What used to be an ‘Andhra mess’ is now just a ‘mess’ or ‘students mess’. Some locals say it is better to check the menu these days before asking for ‘Andhra meals’ because you might be in a ‘Telangana’ restaurant and invite angry glares.
Earlier, diners could walk into a local restaurant and just order ‘Nellore fish curry’ or ‘Gongura chicken’ or ‘Andhra chilli chicken’. Now, restaurants owned or run by people from Telangana have rewritten their menus and call dishes ‘Telangana thali’, ‘Telangana chicken’, and Pulihora pulusu, a tamarind rice dish earlier referred to as Andhra pulihora. The mood also prompted G Suraj Chaudhry, who worked in ‘Andhra’ restaurants for more than a decade, to open Telangana Ruchulu (Taste of Telangana) opposite Secunderabad Railway Station.
“Besides people from Telangana, we have lots of guests who walk in out of curiosity. Popular Telangana dishes include ‘Boti’ and Gongura curry’,” he said. “Hyderabad has all kinds of cuisine including Hyderabadi, Irani, Andhra and Rayalaseema but Telangana was missing. It is a matter of great pride for me to launch ‘Telangana Ruchulu’.’’
Some restaurants have even changed the style of cooking dishes to Telangana from Andhra. For instance, ‘Potlakaya pulusu’, or snakegourd stew, is now ‘Telangana Potlakaya pulusu’. “People from Andhra, Telangana, north India, all kinds of people come to my restaurant. I cannot object if someone asks for Andhra chicken because it is famous and belongs to the undivided state’s cuisine. But it is a matter of pride for me to introduce Telangana dishes in the menu,’’ said K Suman, owner of Salsa Restaurant.
Many restaurants have retained Andhra dishes but have simply done away with the ‘Andhra’ pre-fix in their names. “We are in Telangana not Andhra, so we should have our own Telangana meals, right?’’ asks Dayakar Rao, who runs an eatery for students. “There is Andhra Bank and State Bank of Hyderabad. We need to have our own Telangana Bank. We are not angry with Andhra people but the word ‘Andhra’ cannot define the entire state’s culture. So I think a lot of things will come up with the ‘Telangana’ pre-fix,’’ said P Ravi Kumar, a Telangana student leader at Osmania University.

C.M. Ramesh Residence In India Looks More Like A Stunning Boutique Hotel (PHOTOS)

At first glance, this luxurious property located in the Jubilee Hills neighborhood of Hyderabad, India appears to be a high-end resort. In fact, when we saw The Pinnacle List's photos of the 40,000-square-foot four-level structure clad in white marble and filled with plush leather seating, we were ready to pack our bags and make a reservation.
In actuality, this is the CM Ramesh Residence, owned by a prominent Indian familyand located in one of the most expensive residential locations in the country. The home was designed by Krupa Zubin from Zubin Zainuddin Architects and just completed this year.
It is quite a house. 25-foot-high floor-to-ceiling windows overlook a private courtyard and a gorgeous teakwood pool deck. Inside, there are miles of opulence. The bathroom, which may be the biggest we've seen, has two beautiful frosted showers flanking a whirlpool made out of, you guessed it, marble. The best part of the home? A state-of-the-art private theater with reclining seats. You know where to find us.

Telangana is 29th state of India

At last Lok Sabha passed the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill and Telangana is 29th state of India.
The drama about what will happen and whether the bill be passed in 15th Lok Sabha, is over. Many political parties started shedding tears and shouting for justice to seemandhra region and more time for consultation. These parties dont feel awkward for lacking proper understanding on the issue but contested 2004 or 2009 or both elections on the promise of separate Telangana and included separate Telangana in the election manifestos. The absurd logic that victim can’t be freed without consent of the perpetrator of violence, has been displayed in myriad colours and shades in Telugu politics. Every political party in Andhra Pradesh intervened to ensure justice to Seemandhra region although they were in support of the demand for Telangana state.
Celebrations of a separate Telangana are affected by the concessions, packages and conditions granted to Seemandhra turning the whole Telangana agitation to be freed from exploitation and discrimination as not that just a demand and also unfair to the exploiter. Seemandhra sections succeeded in having the cake and eat it too.
Seemandhra and samaikyandhra forces became popular across the country for their weird designs and acts in Parliament. Their region is happy with great champions of their cause and success in getting resources, projects for development of Seemandhra region along with protection of their interests in Telangana including joint capital for 10 years. Samaikyandhra leaders also threatened for fight for a separate country of Seemandhra people if separate Telangana cannot be stopped.
The long silence on many critical issues about who is going to be benefited by separate Telangana and why demeaning dependence on the mercy of Sonia or BJP and every possible alliance with every political party over the past decade plus years, has come to an end. That’s one special reason why 18 February is important.
Abandoned Adivasis
Adivasis of Telangana and Seemandhra regions do not have anything to celebrate. Adivasis of Khammam scheduled villages are a sea of sorrow as Godavari river is transferred to the Andhra state and the tribal villages are going to be submerged under Polavaram dam. And these adivasis are disowned by Telangana and invited by Andhra to be submerged. This is a sad day for the adivasis who are divided by Telugu states influenced by contractor interests.

Breaking News: Telangana bill passed in Lok Sabha by voice vote

Lok Sabha passed the Andhra Pradesh State Reorganization Bill 2013 by voice vote. BJP leader Sushma Swaraj spoke briefly and extended her party’s support to the bill.
Celebrations begin in 10 districts of Telangana and Delhi. People burst crackers and distribute sweets.
Voting on amendments currently taking place.
Earlier, the house was adjourned several times as Seemandhra MPs and Ministers continuously disrupted the house.
Heavy security was stationed at Parliament as both Seemandhra and Telangana activists gathered in large numbers in National Capital.

15 Brilliant Supporting Roles of Kota Srinivasa Rao

We owe a lot to Kota Srinivasa Rao for making us laugh, cry and seethe with anger while watching movies. Such is his charisma that he breathes life into even the most mundane of roles. Here is a list of 15 brilliant supporting roles he has played over the years.

MONEY

Defining Moment : Kota Srinivasa Rao discourages Uttej from getting married

The whole set up is extremely funny, to say the least. Uttej comes to give his wedding card to Kota Srinivasa Rao, who in turn makes him sit and narrates a story. He's so drunk that he ends up speaking in broken English about the travails of a married life based on his past experiences. The film, directed by Siva Nageswara Rao, was released in 1993 and this scene featuring Kota Srinivasa Rao, Paresh Rawal and Uttej is funny as ever.

AHA NAA PELLANTA

Defining Moment : Hanging the chicken upside down and eating rice

Kota Srinivasa Rao defined what a miser should be like in this rib-tickling comedy directed by Jandhyala. One of the film's most memorable scenes has Kota Srinivasa Rao eating plain rice with a chicken hanging upside down right in front of his eyes. If you haven't figured out that it's his version of chicken biriyani, then Brahmanandam's voice-over certainly clears all doubts.

ADAVARI MATALAKU ARDHALE VERULE

Defining Moment : Kota scolds his son for being unemployed

It's early in the morning and as usual, Kota's son, played by Venkatesh, gets ready to look for a job; however, he does the mistake of asking his father for more money on that day. Kota gets so angry on his son that he throws the money on Venkatesh's face and tells him he can do whatever he wants to and walks out of the house. This scene lasts for less than five minutes, but the impact lasts for a long time.

LITTLE SOLDIERS

Defining Moment : Training his grandchildren

Kota Srinivasa Rao played Major Harishchandra Prasad, a retired army officer, who's devastated after he comes to know that his son and daughter-in-law were killed in an accident. Now, he has to raise his grandchildren on his own, but before he warms up to them, he makes them undergo a gruelling training regime to make them stronger. It's a heartwarming episode in the film.

CHUPULU KALASINA SUBHAVELA

Defining Moment : Kota Srinivasa Rao apologizes to a horse for not giving it a royal treatment

Kota Srinivasa Rao stars as a descendant of a royal family who hasn't quite managed to let go of his family's legacy. He speaks in pure Telugu which confuses a lot of people around him and several times, he has to translate his words in to English. There's a scene in the film where Kota apologizes to a horse for not giving a royal treatment unlike yesteryears when his family was uber rich.

PELLAINA KOTHALO

Defining Moment : Kota Srinivasa Rao is the voice of reason

Towards the end of the film, Jagapathi Babu and Priyamani decide that they no longer want to live together. Soon after their marriage, their opinions and views on how they want to live their lives begin to diverge and in the end, the entire family sits together to find a solution. When all hope seems to be lost, Kota Srinivasa Rao, who plays Jagapathi Babu's grandfather, drives sense into them and tells them that mistakes can be rectified and that they are not the reason to seek a divorce.

IDIOT

Defining Moment : Kota reprimands his son for getting into trouble repeatedly

Kota Srinivasa Rao plays a head constable and he's totally vexed up with the antics of his son, Chanti (Ravi Teja). He keeps reprimanding his son for most part of the film and pleads the latter to not defame his name in front of his superiors in the police station. When he finally gets to know that his son and the commissioner's (Prakash Raj) daughter are in love, all hell breaks loose.

CHITRAM BALARE VICHITHRAM

Defining Moment : Kota gets mighty upset with his tenants

Subhalekha Sudhakar, Brahmanandam and Maharshi live in Kota Srinivasa Rao's house and one fine day, Naresh decides to move to their house. His first interaction with Kota Srinivasa Rao is a disaster and this leads to great deal of animosity between Kota Srinivasa Rao and Naresh. When the latter sneaks into the house, Kota gets a hint of the foulplay and when he comes upstairs to check what's going on, it leads to a comedy of errors

HAI HAI NAYAKA

Defining Moment : Kota Srinivasa Rao threatens Suthivelu

Kota Srinivasa Rao is a rich man who wants a bunch of school teachers to educate his son. One day, a district education officer comes to their village to test the intelligence of the children and he goes berserk after he hears the young boy's replies. Kota Srinivasa Rao reprimands the entire staff in the school for humiliating him and theatrens Suthivelu, the school principal, that if they don't teach his son everything in six months, he'll construct a rice mill on the same location. He uses a lot of cuss words in the film, but everyone he's about to say something, director Jandhyala carefully camouflages it by flashing 'Bhoothu Bhoothu Boothu'. It's a marvelous trick which filmmakers today can use.

JAYAMBU NISCHAYAMBURA

Defining Moment : Kota narrates stories in Telangana slang

In this film, Kota Srinivasa Rao has the uncanny knack of narrating stories, films and on one occasion, even Sampoorna Ramayanam, in Telangana slang and needless to say, it's hilarious. Not just that, every time, he catches one person to listen to his stories and by the end of the conversation, they get so vexed up that they vow to never talk to him again.

FAMILY CIRCUS

Defining Moment : Kota gets humiliated by his neighbours in the colony

Jagapathi Babu, Roja, Rajendra Prasad star in this film which is filled with dysfunctional families, feminists and children who create mayhem in the colony they live in. Kota Srinivasa Rao played the role of an ex-army officer who is now the president of the colony and every now and then, he gets humiliated by his neighbours. His assistant, played by Dharmavarapu Subramanyam, only makes the matters worse.

SUBHALAGNAM

Defining Moment : Kota is tormented by his son, who's an aspiring actor

Kota Srinivasa Rao becomes increasinly concerned about his son's future and one fine day, much to his dismay, his son, played by Ali, decides to become an actor. From there onwards, Ali, along with a director, try to make everything into a scene from a film and let Ali show his acting prowess. Kota Srinivasa Rao becomes a scapegoat and after a point, he completely loses his cool.

AA NALUGURU

Defining Moment : Kota demands his money back

Kotayya lends Rs 5 lakhs to Raghu Ramayya (Rajendra Prasad) and the latter promises that he would repay the money promptly. However, Raghu Ramayya passes away all of a sudden and just before Raghu Ramayya's son, played by Raja, is about to set his father's dead body on fire, Kotayya demands his money back. Things take a dramatic turn when Raja is about to leave the place without honouring his father's last words, but the rest of the crowd comes forward to repay the loan. It's one of the brilliant scenes in his highly emotional film about human values.

HELLO BROTHER

Defining Moment : Kota Srinivasa Rao, Mallikarjuna Rao strike a bond

Kota Srinivasa and Mallikarjuna Rao could very well be one of the funniest S.I-Head Constable jodis in Telugu cinema. In EVV Satyanarayana's Hello Brother, starring Nagarjuna, Soundarya and Ramya Krishna, Kota Srinivasa and Mallikarjuna behave like Tom and Jerry for most part of the film and in an interesting turn of events, Mallikarjuna Rao is promoted instead of Kota Srinivasa Rao. In the end, their subplot in the film takes a tragic turn which is quite surprising considering how different the rest of their scenes are.

CHINNARAYUDU

Defining Moment : Q & A between Kota Srinivasa Rao and Babu Mohan

Kota Srinivasa Rao and Babu Mohan played the roles of washermen in this film starring Venkatesh. Babu Mohan has a bundle of questions to ask about everything under the sun and when he finally reveals the question, Kota Srinivasa Rao is so frustrated that they end up fighting all the time. The questions, along with the duo's expressions, make it worth watching these scenes again and again.

Review : A Mild Heart Attack on the Audience

Plot:  The movie starts with a tattoo ad. Sadly, 2 – 3 minutes of tattoo ad for someone who is not much into erotic art is a really tough thing to digest.  The villain, extraordinarily handsome for a villain, runs a kidnapping racket. He starts with paralysing the cop who busts the women-trafficking act, but for some reason decides to shoot an interview even before he hands over the criminals; even before he leaves the crime scene.

Zoom out. Zoom in to Europe. Spain specifically. One small fight, small for the hero’s standards. No, not Nithin. Any Puri Jagannadh hero.  Varun(Nithin) is a traveller, with a fetish for deep kisses, while offering the disclaimer that he is not into relationships and emotional attachment. He sleeps in sleeping bags and does odd jobs to take care of his expenses. Hayati (Adah Sharma) is in Europe to help her cousin with her love story. Hayati’s cousin falls in love with a dark coloured gentleman called Haridas. Brahmandam is an Iskcon head and doesn’t approve of his daughter’s love for a dark man. After a lot of racist jokes, Varun saves the day and convinces Brahmi.

Finally, we have the comic relief out of our way. What a relief! Back to main story. Hayati falls for Nithin, but wants more than just a transient experience. So, after giving Varun a kiss that lasts more than 1 hour, thanks to the timer shown on the screen for the audience’ benefit, she decides he should never show his face to her again. She leaves. He leaves for Romania. New place, new day job, new girl – only this time, he is not able to focus on the deep kiss. Instead, she reminds him, he is in love with Hayati. So, he comes to Goa to look for her. Meanwhile Hayati has agreed to marry Makarand(the handsome woman-trafficking racket head) as a deal, when he agrees to pay the 50 lacs needed for her father’s operation, the same cop who was paralysed by Makarand at the beginning for busting his racket.

Nithin needs money to pay back to Makarand and take back his love. In comes, Craigs’ List. A millionaire’s (Prakash Raj) daughter has been kidnapped and he offers Varun 2 crores if he could get back. Nithin gets assistance from Ali and his wife. Their cameo manages to bring quite a few laughs, adding some value with minimal screen time. The final fight is in a dark dungeon full of white-skinned, drugged girls, ready to be transported away.Varun could have used part of that huge amount promised, to get some goons to help him. But check disclaimer 3. So, all ends well and Varun and Hayati get a fully sponsored pre-wedding honeymoon from the millionaire.

Disclaimer 1: Women are a little too scantily clad in the movie.

Disclaimer 2: There will be tons of ‘gyaan’ from the hero – about men, about women, about life in general.

Disclaimer 3: The hero can fight. The goons can’t.

Disclaimer 4: It is a Puri Jagannadh film. Period.

Verdict: Amidst a whole bevy of coincidences Heart Attack, is a simple love story, with a few twists typical of Nithin’s movies. A lot of them lack punch, though. Nithin is his usual self. Adah Sharma offers a fresh, but no so memorable performance. Brahmandam’s bit was not so good, but Ali’s was. The cinematography is really good and Amol Rathod deserves a pat. The locales helped him well too. The music by Anoop Rubens is ordinary and even commercial songs like Chupinchandey, don’t really manage to get your foot tapping. Selavanuko is the only melody that manages to impress to a certain extent. All in all, it didn’t seem to come from the director of Pokiri.

11 Hero Monologues that Made us Think

Over the years, Telugu cinema has produced great actors, some of who have frozen time with their acting nous. In the hands of the right auteur, such artists have conjured scenes that stay forever in memory. Here are some good monologues, in no particular order, from heroes in Telugu and bi-lingual films that stand out in our memory.

Bobbili Puli :

Bobbili Puli
NTR was not just a genius at mythological movies but also in social dramas such as this. In this courtroom monologue, NTR sets the trend of the heroes expressing gut-wrenching anguish over the inequities and injustice of society and the loopholes of the Indian justice system. As a much-decorated army officer, he logically explains what is wrong with the judiciary, a must-watch.

Defining moment – When he admits, he has doled out the punishment to save the face of the judiciary.

Iddaru :

Iddaru
A classic example of a soliloquy, the symbolic opulence of this scene, where Prakash Raj stands alone in a large chamber, talking to himself is laudable. His plight is in stark contrast to the millions accompanying the dead body of his friend and political rival in its final journey. The essence of the whole political drama based movie, listed in British Film Institute Sight and Sound 1000 greatest films of all time is beautifully captured in this scene.

Defining moment – When he regrets that by getting to death first, his friend has become a legend

Chantabbai :

Chantabbai
Chiranjeevi’s monologue, sobbing and reminiscing over his childhood travails – the loss of his mother, the pangs of hunger and the agony of harsh loneliness – is a moving depiction of the plight of orphans.

Defining moment – The sight of a determined kid, filling his tummy with water to save money.

Rakhi :

Rakhi
Rarely does Junior NTR get an opportunity to portray his acting prowess. But, in yet another impactful soul-stirring monologue, he expresses his anguish to Ileana on how women are being tortured, abused, molested and harassed, sometimes by highly educated men in powerful positions.

Defining moment – When he screams asking Ileana who would offer the right reply to the atrocities against women, bringing tears to the audience’ eyes too.

Kathanayakudu :

Kathanayakudu
A superstar acknowledging a childhood friend’s support and admitting without an iota of embarrassment, the state of penury he suffered early in life, is a theme that always garners attention. That the monologue was from Rajnikant is the icing on the cake. Jagapati Babu, as a listener in the audience, accentuates the effect further through sheer expressions.

Defining moment – When he reveals the name of his childhood friend.

Bommarillu :

Bommarillu
This monologue from Siddharth has to go down as one of the classiest pieces of dialogue-delivery in Telugu cinema, neither too loud nor too soft, neither monotonous nor overtly dramatic. It expresses the complications of a father-son relationship where too much love could also lead to too much pain.

Defining moment – It is hard to find a Telugu cinema-goer from the present generation, who hasn’t seen ‘Antha mere chesaru’ dialogue even once.

Gamyam :

Gamyam
The aptly named movie portrays the transformation of a young, purposeless, rich kid into an empathetic and socially responsible citizen, thus helping him eventually woo the muse who makes him embark on this journey. This scene does a fine job of summarizing the hero’s travails, the lessons he learnt through the odyssey and sojourns involved in a road trip, looking for the love of his life.

Defining moment – When he doles out the ‘Premanu preminche prema’ line.

Shankar Dada MBBS :

Shankar Dada MBBS
An emotional outbreak from Chiranjeevi in an emotional roller coaster of a movie, this monologue has Chiranjeevi talking about the need for humaneness in doctors as they treat their patients.

Defining moment – When he recollects the dying moments of his friend Thomas, who calls him god.

Suswagatham :

Suswagatham
Pawan Kalyan’s calm but furious outburst, voicing years of wait and frustration, is a trendsetting scene, an anti-climax of sorts that reciprocated the ethos of a generation of rejected lovers.

Defining moment – When he says he doesn’t need the love that can be won over only after he loses everything.

Aparichithudu :

Aparichitudu
In a once-in-a-generation movie, Vikram delivers a stand-out performance to a jam-packed gallery, touching on the theme of moral responsibility of every individual citizen towards the country.

Defining moment – When he shows the audience what he did with the indolent person in the park

Tagore :

Tagore
This trendsetting movie needed a powerful climax. Chiranjeevi’s courtroom tirade elevates the screenplay to a higher plane, expressing the common man’s anguish and anger in unequivocal terms.

Defining moment – When he accepts the judge’s offer to take oath on his conscience instead of Gita.
